About Donna Poynor
Donna received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Home Economics from CMU in 1962 and 1969, and was a founding professor of the Fashion Merchandising and Design program. Donna taught a variety of design courses including pattern making, garment construction, and illustration courses from 1973 – 2005. She also co-led field study tours to New York City and Toronto, was a Resident Assistant mentor, and was very involved in the early years of the student-produced Threads Fashion Show. In many ways, the success of the Fashion Merchandising and Design program and many of its accomplished alumni would not be where they are today without the mentorship of Donna Poynor.
About the Donna Poynor Award in Fashion Merchandising and Design
While the lab spaces and technological aspects of the Fashion Merchandising and Design program have advanced greatly in the last 15 years, the program still prides itself on giving students a strong foundation in quality garment design, pattern making and construction. In 2019, the program will become its own department, merging with Interior Design to form the Department of Fashion, Interior Design and Merchandising. In addition to tuition, there are many financial costs associated with having the best real-world industry experiences possible through internships, study abroad, and opportunities to exhibit design work locally, nationally, and internationally.
Donna has established the Donna Poynor Award in Fashion Merchandising and Design, adding to only four other existing scholarships available to Fashion Merchandising and Design students. Please consider joining Donna in supporting Fashion Merchandising and Design students by making a contribution to this Award in her name, so that together you can continue to positively impact the education of CMU’s future professionals in the Fashion Industry.
