The Safari 60/40 Scholarship
The Safari 60/40 Scholarship seeks to aid students with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) between $5,001 and $10,000 by covering 60% of the $125 conference cost. Students with an EFC between $0 and $5,000 are currently eligible for a waiver form that covers all fees associated with attendance.
What is Leadership Safari?
Founded in 1996 by a group of dedicated students looking to improve their campus, Leadership Safari began in 1997 with its inaugural conference. Those 65 new students would begin a tradition that has endured and flourished to affect over 25,000 students since that first Safari (2,002 participants in 2015 alone). From challenge courses to fairness lunches, from speakers to comedians, with break out sessions and more icebreakers than anyone thought possible, Safari has become a hallmark experience for new students at Central Michigan University.
With its emphasis on leadership development and teamwork, participants are challenged to grow as leaders and as individuals before classes start. Leadership aside, Safari provides students with a welcoming and supportive environment that aids in the transition to college life. By attending, students will hit the ground running with the tools they need to be successful in their tenure at CMU.
The Federal Government determines Expected Family Contribution (EFC) when a student fills out their FAFSA. It’s a measure of the family’s financial strength and takes into consideration the taxed and untaxed income, assets, and benefits. It is important because it is the measure of how much money a student and their family will be able to contribute toward their educational expenses for one year at CMU. CMU then uses EFC to determine a student’s financial need and provide federal financial aid eligibility and award. The lower a student’s EFC, the more financial aid is awarded. These students will have to use financial aid to pay to attend Leadership Safari. Will you please help us cover partial fees for students with an EFC between $5,001 and $10,000? Many of these deserving students find a way to cover the cost, but this is an invitation for alumni to pass the torch to the next generation of proud Chippewas. By focusing on these students, you can help make Leadership Safari affordable to all while investing in future leaders on Central Michigan University’s campus. And who better to invest in Safari than those who know the impact it can have on a student’s success in college and beyond?
How it Works
Your tax-deductible charitable donation will be directly deposited into the Safari 60/40 Scholarship. Assistance will be distributed to students who embody the ideals of the program and stand to gain the most from their involvement. The more donations, the larger the scholarship. The larger the scholarship, the more deserving students can be assisted entering their first year at Central Michigan University. Will you help by donating and helping a student start off on the right foot at CMU?
